Van Gaal unwilling to use Di Maria as a makeweight for Schweinsteiger

Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal will not allow his interest in Bastian Schweinsteiger to result in the departure of record signing Angel Di Maria this summer, report the Mirror.
The Dutch coach is pursuing a move for the World Cup winning German – having managed the 30-year-old midfielder for two years as Bayern Munich boss between 2009 and 2011 – and there have been suggestions that Di Maria could go the other way.
Van Gaal has already outlined his intention to sign a right-sided central midfielder this summer and Schweinsteiger tops his wishlist.
However, the 63-year-old is unwilling to let Di Maria leave this summer and will not allow his pursuit of the Bayern Munich midfielder get in the way of the Argentine’s future.

After breaking the British transfer record to move to Old Trafford last summer, expectations were high following the arrival of Di Maria.
The 27-year-old was instrumental in Real Madrid’s Champions League campaign in 2013/2014 and started excellently at Old Trafford with three goals in five games for Van Gaal’s side.
However, injuries and a chronic loss of form contributed to a dismal second half of the season for the midfielder.
Di Maria was sent off against Arsenal during the two side’s FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford and was often a substitute in the Premier League.
